 Verichrome Pan Time Travel Experiment
(...or, can Idaho boy find happiness
with 45 year old film?)

I was in first grade when this box of film "expired"....
What happens to sour cream when it goes "bad"?
It's already sour to begin with, right?
Does Verichrome go "bad"?

I opened the box very carefully.
We need to preserve our historic artifacts, you know.

The long awaited coming out party.  It's been in there a long time!  Fresh air!
Breath deep, the gathering gloom...(that should date me.)

Ahh...so beautiful, so...yellow.
I couldn't smell it.  I have a head cold.
I have another new/old roll I'm saving for when I'm better.
Then I'm gonna sniff it.  I love that new film smell.

I picked a Kodak Duaflex IV for it's maiden outing.
These two were made for each other.  Literally.

Once again my old dog gets the modeling duties.  For this
first shot I set my Vivitar flash on manual at a setting that
would work for this five foot distance at f16.  I set the shutter
to "long" which is what the bulb setting on this camera is called.
I then opened the shutter and popped the flash manually, then
released the shutter.  Hey, that's what "bulb" is for!  Then I headed
out for some outdoor shots.

After the shootin' match...

In keeping with the "old" theme, I loaded the exposed
Verichrome into my oldest Paterson.  That gray stuff is
JB Weld.  The tank's had a hard life, but I keep patching
it up.  I developed the film in D76 1+1 for 14 minutes.

So, did it work?  Was the old VP viable?
